Yoga has been part of my life since I was six years old — long before I had any words for what it was.
My first encounter with yoga
My first encounter with yoga was when I was six years old, growing up in Mauritius.
A Swami would visit our home and teach my whole family together. I remember being absolutely thrilled that I was allowed to join in. Being the only child in the room made it all feel like a great adventure — I giggled my way through the asanas, thrilled to be part of this wonderful thing that the whole family was doing together.
But the memory that stayed with me most deeply came from a Yoga Nidra practice.
With my eyes closed, as we were guided to move our awareness through different parts of our bodies, something completely unexpected happened.
I became deeply, fully aware of my nose.
Without touching it.
There it was, my nose, just hanging around, so very present and real — and somehow seemingly separate from me.
I remember being utterly astonished.
How could I feel my nose so vividly without touching it, without looking at it? How was this even happening?
Little did I know that six-year-old me was having a brief existential glitch — a tiny moment of wonder that would, many years later, grow into a deep curiosity about awareness, consciousness, and what it means to be human.

If this spoke to you, that is enough of a reason to begin.
There is nothing else to know first. Everything else can be discovered on the mat, or in the writing to me.
